Michael Abbott is a recognized leader in the technology industry having held executive posts at Apple, General Motors (GM), Kleiner Perkins, Twitter (now X), Palm, and Microsoft. His technical expertise includes deep knowledge of core infrastructure, social and mobile platforms, and cloud computing where he has significant experience rapidly scaling teams, products, and ventures.

Michael Abbott is a member of the HTEC Advisory Board and currently serves as a senior advisor to the CEO of General Motors (GM) where he was most recently the Executive Vice President of Software and Services, overseeing a global team of nearly 20,000 technology engineers focusing on all aspects of GM’s business.

Prior to GM, Mike was the VP of Engineering for Apple Cloud Services, which included core infrastructure services and products like iCloud, account security, iMessage, Private Relay, and Mail. Mike was previously a General Partner with Kleiner Perkins, where he focused on investments in the firm’s digital practice, helping entrepreneurs in the social, mobile, and cloud computing sectors rapidly scale teams and ventures.

As an engineering leader, entrepreneur and investor, Mike has led the building of innovative, secure, high-performance applications and services at Twitter, Palm, and Microsoft.

Additionally, Mike serves on the board of USC Viterbi School of Engineering, on the UC Berkeley Engineering advisory board, and on the foundation board at California Polytechnic State University.

He has been a visiting scholar at the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL), where he performed technical research in computer vision, an adjunct Lecturer at Stanford Computer Science Department, and was a member of the HealthCare.gov Tech Surge Team while holding numerous board seats of both investments and companies he founded.

Mike holds a bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University and was a Ph.D. student at the University of Washington.
